Insanity: Max 30 Journey Day 19 - Friday Fight: Round 1

During the course of two months, I'd like to take you into my journey as I strive to retain a healthy lifestyle through a healthy balanced nutrition program and Beachbody trainer extraordinaire -- and Men's Health cover man -- Shaun T's brand new workout regimen Insanity Max 30.

Day 19: Friday Fight: Round 1
Still on track. I even went to bed a little later last night and managed to wake up in the wee hours of the morning -- albeit 10 minutes later than my other morning workouts. Despite being able to jump out of bed -- and yes, I do literally jump out -- I was a bit weighed down. I, like many of you, am exhausted in the morning, but this day was more so than the rest.

My fear is usually just the workout, especially today's Friday Fight. It has been an ongoing struggle with this workout, but today I was wondering if I could do a simple jumping jack, let alone plyo jack squats -- DAMN YOU SHAUN T!!

I barely made it through the warmup, but once I did and got my swig of water during the 25 second break, I was ready to fight -- my mind and body. Maybe my mind was just a bit ahead of my body, which was dragging, but I was still going, with good form. It wasn't for several minutes before I started to hit a wall, of sorts.

Then it hit me: I was so tired this morning, I forgot to check what last week's Max Out Time was, and if I was going to be able to strive to beat it. I hit my Max Out Time at 8:33 and was doubtful I even came close to last week's time. I was disappointed enough that my time from yesterday's Tabata Strength to today's Friday Fight went down more than 11 minutes; I would have been doubly discouraged if my time from a week ago went down too.

I can't see a lick, and that's why I have such thick glasses. Couple my virtual blindness (I don't workout with contacts or glasses, foolishly) with the pre-sunrise darkness and I didn't know my Max Out Time from a week ago until after I finished the workout and threw my glasses on.

I improved by 11 seconds. I was somewhat happy. That's a four second improvement from last week's seven-second jump from Day 5 of my journey. I'm glad I got through this week. It was a hard challenge to accomplish. And, less the midweek hiccup of not waking up in the morning for my Sweat Intervals day, I was able to do it.

Next week, I intend to get more dedicated to strict nutrition and morning workouts with better Max Out Times across the board. It is the last week of Month 1. Next up: Pulse.
