Insanity: Max 30 Journey Day 17 - Sweat Intervals

During the course of two months, I'd like to take you into my journey as I strive to retain a healthy lifestyle through a healthy balanced nutrition program and Beachbody trainer extraordinaire -- and Men's Health cover man -- Shaun T's brand new workout regimen Insanity Max 30.

Day 17: Sweat Intervals
Today was a tough one. It's Wednesday - hump day. If I get through this day, we're on the other side of the week and looking at the Week 3 finish line. However, my short-term goal of getting myself up at 5:30 a.m. each day this week for my Max 30 challenge was not met. I was simply too exhausted for whatever reason and had to listen to my body.

I tried not to let my failing the short-term goal get to me, and I went about my day and prepared mentally for conquering Sweat Intervals when I got home from work. That's just what I did.

After running the dog around the backyard for five to 10 minutes, I geared up for the workout. A week ago, I improved by about a half a minute. My goal was to get another 30 or so seconds deeper this week.

I came out strong, and I pushed it to the limit. I got to the eight minute mark and was still feeling great. I figured - Let's get to the 10-minute break and see where I am at at that point. I got to the break, took a swig of my green berry Shakeology and got back in it. at this point, I was more than two minutes further along than last week. It wasn't until the 11:27 mark where I simply couldn't take any more.

I kept pushing through -- with a visit from the little one to hold my hands during burpee lunges -- and didn't hit my Weep Time until 28:35. I closed out the last 90 seconds strong and then ended with another "Yay Papa!" with clapping, followed by a high five from my daughter. All-in-all, a great day, I would say. Next up: Tabata Strength (weekly rematch).
